In 1951, the first atomic bomb was detonated at the Nevada Test Site just 65 miles north of Downtown Las Vegas. It would mark the beginning of regular tests that would illuminate the desert with a flash so brilliant that it rivaled the sun. Crowds gathered along Fremont Street to watch the aftershock ripple through the desert.

It wasn't long before hotels and casinos posted the dates and times of the planned bomb tests to entice visitors from near and far to stay in Las Vegas. It was the first time that the city promoted its proximity to danger as a form of entertainment.

The Fallout Fringe Festival is a month-long performance art festival with a focus on work that challenges the dominant paradigm of "Traditional Theatre." The work ranges from funny, to thought provoking, and, in some cases, dangerous.

Performance artists from Las Vegas, and across the country will take over the Arts District and Downtown Las Vegas to present a month-long showcase of the most jaw dropping antics.  Several DTLV venues will be hosting a variety of performances all throughout June.
