Best New Band 2024: The Patterns
VIM: First of all, congrats to all of you on being named Best New Band for 2024 by VIM Magazine. You’re only the second band that the magazine has named and in keeping with tradition I think it’s well earned. Having listened to your music these past couple of weeks and seeing the persona and feel you bring to your ensemble just brings it all together. It’s both a treat to the eyes and senses hearing you all rock out. So how did the Patterns as a band come about?
THE PATTERNS: Jake and Josh have been writing together since they were kids. When they moved to Vegas they linked up with Alec and Anthony and we started playing and recording as much as we could
VIM: What bands have inspired each of you through your journey in music? Any local favorites?
THE PATTERNS: Our favorite bands are Blur, XTC, and Gentle Giant.
Our favorite locals are King Fun, Sticker, Trash Animals, and Switterbeet!
VIM: Your second release, the Noise Room EP came out last year. How do you think you have all evolved from your first album to this one?
THE PATTERNS: We learned a lot about recording and mixing from the first album. We went for an intentionally darker and noisier sound for the noise room, and plan to continue evolving our sound moving forward.
VIM: What’s next for the Patterns and for yourselves? Any personal passion projects?
THE PATTERNS: We’re writing and recording our next album which will go in a more progressive rock direction. A few of us play in other projects as well, shoutout Haushanka, MsMrs And Kings/Kings
The Patterns perform next at The Usual Place on October 17 supporting Particle Kid. With band Francia and The Stevenson Ranch Davidians. Their new single ‘Up On My Broomstick’ is available now on streaming just in time for spooky season.

Ministry In Vegas
Photos And Review by Jorge Lara
6-time Grammy nominated band Ministry played to a full house on Thursday, April 4th at the Theatre at Virgin Hotel in Las Vegas. A concert that also featured iconic band Front Line Assembly and the legendary Gary Numan, who all played full sets to an energized crowd.
Ministry, which was started in 1981 by Al Jourgensen has seemingly never lost their ability to rile up an audience. Al Jourgensen took some time between songs to converse with the crowd which was an added treat.
The evening started with a selection of songs from Ministry’s latest album Hopium For The Masses. From ‘B.D.E’ followed by ‘Just Stop Oil,’ ‘Goddamn White Trash,’ ‘New Religion,’ ‘Alert Level,’ and Broken System. A selection that finds the band trying out new levels of melody and sonic tension. The songs were all defined by a true political message that resonates with the crowds intensity as they propel themselves into a mosh pit and frenzy. Ministry’s intensity was not lost to the audience as their energy continued with classic favorites, ‘NWO’ and ‘Just One Fix’ from album Psalm 69.
The band proceeds to amaze with video visuals newly created for each song. The visuals along with the performances added to the crowds propensity. As the crowd find haven in titular songs ‘The Missing’ and ‘Deity’ and followed by fan favorite ‘Stigmata’ from the album, ‘The Land of Rape and Honey.’
The band finish their set list with songs ‘Thieves’ and ‘Jesus Built My Hotrod,’ the latter which gets a new intensity with a slight retake on the song. The band then return not just for one but for two encores. The first encore featured songs ‘Burning Inside’ and ‘So What’ which featured an extended bass and jam ending.
The second encore featured a cover of band Fad Gadget’s song ‘Ricky’s Hand.’ The song was accompanied by Gary Numan adding extra vocals.
The band concluded their Hopium For the Masses tour 4 days ago and their next stop will be the Cruel World Festival on May 11 at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena where they will be playing songs from albums With Sympathy and Twitch.

BEST NEW BAND IN VEGAS: LUXURY FURNITURE STORE
Luxury Furniture Store (from left to right): æther (synth player), Proteus (singer), and spektor (bassist)
Interview and Photos by Jorge Lara
Luxury Furniture Store has created a unique sound and name for itself with amazing stage presence and style. Its mix of darkwave with a post punk aesthetic has garnered it the adoration of fans. VIM was lucky enough to capture their first live performance of the year at Artifice last month. Their performance of ‘Glum’ is featured on the second season of VIM Presents live music series. And now they are the first band to be named ‘Best New Band’ by VIM Magazine.
Singing about “dousing the cracks of labyrinth wounds” on song ‘Glum’ and “screaming minds, the naked kind” on song ‘Rainbow Wheel of Death” Luxury Furniture Store has created its own fabric of reality in dystopian and fantastical dreamy lyrics.
Luxury Furniture Store perform next on March 15th at Artifice with Closed Tear, Lesser Care, and Wisteria. We interviewed Proteus (singer), æther (synth player), and spektor (bassist) about the band’s future and other musings.
VIM Magazine: You first album Bedrot was released in 2021. Is there anything new in the works?
Luxury Furniture Store: Yes, we are working on some new music for 2023! Stay tuned!
VIM Magazine: Was lucky to have attended your last performance at Artifice. What do you all like about getting to perform your songs life?
Luxury Furniture Store: We really love seeing the crowd vibing and dancing to our set. Nothing makes us happier than seeing everyone having a good time and being part of the experience that we like to create.
VIM Magazine: How do you all go about writing and making your songs?
Luxury Furniture Store: Lately I like to write the concept and themes in my head while doing other things through out the day. Normally I wait until an idea hits and I go home and write everything with in an hour or so. The songs that fully presents itself right off the bat are the songs are usually the best ones. Once the main bones is done I take it to spektor (our bassist) and æther and we co produce the songs together.
VIM Magazine: You have another show coming up in March. You played some new songs in your last show. What can we expect from this upcoming show?
Luxury Furniture Store: That’s something you all will have to attend to see ;)
VIM Magazine: What are your future plans? Do any of you have other side projects?
Luxury Furniture Store: We do have many things in the works but I’d say the obvious one we have is Spektor Recordings. We have been recording other local artists and projects through this.

SHAHAB ZARGARI’S NEW ODDITIES NOW OUT
Shahab Zargari is an award-winning Iranian-American filmmaker and administrative faculty member of the UNLV College of Fine Arts. After years of creating original short-form streaming content, Shahab made his directorial debut with the Philip K. Dick adaptation, THE CRYSTAL CRYPT (2013), an official selection at the San Diego Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival.
He continued to hone his craft, creating original films, music videos, and a multitude of commissioned works. Shahab’s short films MY NAME IS ART (2018) and OH, THE GUILT (2021) garnered a dozen awards from a variety of prestigious festivals, including official selection to Amazon’s inaugural All Voices Film Festival, a digital festival celebrating underrepresented communities. Currently, the Docu-Dance short ‘The UNLV Shoah Project‘ is making rounds in the film festival circuit. His debut solo album, ‘New Oddities’ is out now via GC Records.
VIM Magazine: You just released the music video for your song, ‘Robotic Pleasures’ on Jan. 16 from your solo album ‘New Oddities’ which features Mo Milan of Cocoa Pastel music. How was it working with Mo Milan and how did the song come about?
Shahab Zargari: Mo is one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever known. Producer, singer, instrumentalist. She amazes me with every new track. Has since meeting her several years back at 11th Street Records. I’m a huge fan of her art and when the track was birthed, I asked her if she’d like to collaborate with this AI stuff for my solo album. She said yes. Robotic Pleasures is 100% her lyrics, her vocals. I’m humbled to have created something so delicious with her at the helm.
VIM Magazine: Sounds like a great collaboration. What else can we expect from your album?
Shahab Zargari: The album New Oddities, was an experiment using AI software to create the backbones of songs after which real live humans added layers and layers of sounds and vocals to create a true collaboration. It will be interesting to see where we go from here. One thing is for sure: the album is more of a sonic journey than a conventional album.

VIM Magazine: As an Iranian-American storyteller what has been your experience bringing the many stories you’ve told to film?
Shahab Zargari: Growing up in the 80s and 90s there weren’t many opportunities to enter the film world for a Persian kid like myself. So I had to do it myself. Despite the naysayers. And now, I am considered a filmmaker by peers and unknowns. The work speaks for itself. Some people like it, some don’t. And that’s ok.
VIM Magazine: You shot and edited the music video for Johnny Ruiz and The Escapers which I think was masterfully done. I love how the video takes you inside the cabin and out of the car. How did the video come along?
Shahab Zargari: My good friend Checko Salgado knew the owner of the label that was putting out the band’s 7” for distribution through legendary Daptone Records. Checko put my name in the hat as to someone who could deliver the vision they had for a video that showed the urban sprawl of downtown Las Vegas but could also be beautifully shot in black and white. So humbled they chose me. We did two separate camera tests with Johnny, trying out cameras and figuring out shooting logistics (car choreography as well as camera positions and number of takes). Then we spent another 4 shoot dates getting the coverage we needed. Much like a Marvel or Star Wars film reshoots were ordered after the initial edit in order to grab pickups and redo some footage. I’m very glad to hear you liked it. Thank you so much. It was a labor of love, and with music so good it just made it fun.
VIM Magazine: Been listening to the Escapers since I saw the music video you directed. Any plans on submitting this music video or another video to film festivals for consideration?
Shahab Zargari: It’s a commissioned video, so I probably won’t be submitting it to festivals, but perhaps the record label will read this and submit on their own! That would be a nice way of getting the song out there!
Shahab Zargari and Heela Naqshband of GC Records accepting a Congressional Recognition Award
VIM Magazine: Along with being a musician and photographer you also have a record label, GC Records. Any releases planned for 2023? What has been your takeaway from working on the label all these years?
Shahab Zargari: The biggest takeaway is: No matter what, continue to make music for fun and with passion, even if it doesn’t lead to super stardom. Art is essential. Also: everyone these days should start their own band or label. The tools are there, use them! We created our label 24 years ago because we had to create our own opportunities. With digital distribution, the power is in your hands!!! We have a few releases in the works, but nothing to report at the moment as nothing has release dates. Keep checking gcrecords.com every so often and you won’t miss any new album drops!
“The biggest takeaway is: No matter what, continue to make music for fun and with passion, even if it doesn’t lead to super stardom.”
VIM Magazine: And I’m with you that everyone should start their own band or label. I would add magazines to that. I think Vegas need more music and culture centric magazines as a whole. The 30th anniversary of your record label is coming up. Any plans for how you will be celebrating the anniversary?
Shahab Zargari: Luckily, the 30th Anniversary will be 2029, so we have a little bit of time to plan and build out events and assets. What I would like to do honestly is put together a documentary chronicling the 30 years. It’s a bit of a daunting task, but I feel like it’s fully possible considering we have five or six years to work on it.

Ladytron Release Time's Arrow on Jan 20th: The VIM Magazine Interview
The UK seminal synth quartet Ladytron return with their highly anticipated seventh studio album 'Time’s Arrow' on January 20th that shows off everything that hard-earned fans can count on - crystalline melodies enveloped in icy textures and rippling arpeggios -- with touches of indie pop, shoegaze, disco, and industrial music.
A UK tour is set for March 2023 with performances in Glasgow, Liverpool, and London with a US tour set for May 2023 with performances on May 10 in Seattle at The Neptune, May 11 in Portland at the Wonder Ballroom, and on May 12 in San Francisco at August Hall.
VIM Magazine: Time's Arrow is Ladytron’s seventh album. What can listeners expect from this new album?
Helen: People can expect our signature sound, but pushing the boat out on some soaring vocals.
Daniel: It sounds like us, but we have travelled to some new places on the new record. We always do. To those who know us, familiar and different.
“Sometimes remixing can allow you to try out new techniques. It’s often a good production workout. I loved doing Blondie’s Fade Away and Radiate.”
VIM Magazine: You have produced remixes for bands like David Gahan, Goldfrapp, Placebo, and Nine Inch Nails. Do you all have a favorite remix you’ve done and what has been the allure of mixing other bands?
Daniel: Well, you get asked to do remixes all the time. If the track is right and the moment is right then you do it. We’ve been lucky to remix some artists we respect and admire, from the past and our contemporaries. Sometimes remixing can allow you to try out new techniques. It’s often a good production workout. I loved doing Blondie’s Fade away and radiate.
VIM Magazine: You will follow your 2023 UK tour dates with 3 shows on the West Coast of the United States, in Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. Can we expect further dates after those or perhaps some festival appearances?
Helen: I really hope so. I'm keen to play more dates in the US as we've always been received so well there. I have my fingers crossed for the east coast and anything in between.
Daniel: Perhaps yes. At time of writing things are still being confirmed. But I would imagine we would come to the east coast later in the year.
“People can expect our signature sound, but pushing the boat out on some soaring vocals. ”
VIM Magazine: The music video for the first single ‘City of Ángels’ was directed by Manuel Noguiera and features actress Bianca Comparato. How did the music video come about?
Daniel: Manuel is a friend of mine in Sao Paulo Brazil. He directed one video/short film for the last album, Tower of Glass. We wanted to work together again and he fell in love with City of Angels when I played it to him. As always wanted to make something beyond a conventional music video, and came up with this kind of occult, science fiction universe, within which we had wonderful actress Bianca Comparato, from 3%, who is also a big fan of Ladytron since she was a teenager. It was very rewarding to make.
VIM Magazine: Your bands name was taken from a song from Roxy Music . Are there any current bands you all have been listening to?
Daniel: So, when the name Ladytron was chosen it was 1997, 25 years ago. Ladytron by Roxy Music was only 25 years old then…I love the comet is coming record.
VIM Magazine: All the members of the band are known to work on side projects of their own. You are all known for your DJ sets and Daniel Hunt has worked on several music scores. Any current side projects you are all working on?
Helen: I've just recently completed a score for a 3 part TV documentary. It's the first i've done and i'm really eager to do more in the future.
Daniel: We always have other areas of creative interest but they are kept separate from Ladytron.
Iggy Pop's new album 'Every Loser' Out on January 6
CREDIT: VINCENT GUIGNET
In the wake of the ecstatic reaction to its appropriately titled opening track and first single “Frenzy,” it can now be revealed that Iggy Pop will unleash his new album, EVERY LOSER, on the public come January 6, 2023 – Pre-Order and Pre-Save HERE.
EVERY LOSER is Iggy’s 19th solo album and his first to be released via the recently announced partnership between Atlantic Records and Gold Tooth Records, the new label founded by the album’s GRAMMY Award-winning, multi-platinum executive producer, Andrew Watt.
“I’m the guy with no shirt who rocks; Andrew and Gold Tooth get that, and we made a record together the old-fashioned way,” Iggy said in a recent statement. “The players are guys I’ve known since they were kids and the music will beat the shit out of you.”
As indicated by the pinned db meters of “Frenzy,” EVERY LOSER harkens back to Iggy’s primordial roots while maintaining an undeniably modern lyrical point viewpoint and sonic palette. EVERY LOSER is an exemplary album of primal rock ’n’ roll—a master class in the art of lashing out with unequalled intensity and unflappable wit. The result is 11 songs by the man who refused to go gently into that good night on his previous album, 2019’s somber and contemplative Free, and is once again charging fearlessly at life itself on EVERY LOSER.
“Iggy Pop is a fucking icon. A true original. The guy invented the stage dive..I still can’t believe he let me make a record with him. I am honored. It doesn’t get cooler. This album was created to be played as loud as your stereo will go…turn it up and hold on…” says Andrew Watt
The cover of EVERY LOSER is an original piece of art created by world renowned contemporary fine artist Raymond Pettibon. Pettibon burst onto the scene in the late 70s and designed iconic album covers for artists such as Sonic Youth and Black Flag. His signature motifs are pulled from literature, art history, philosophy, religion, politics, sports, and alternative youth culture. Pettibon’s work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and around the world, including a 2017 survey at the New Museum in New York, and inclusion in the 2007 and 1999 Venice Biennials.
The new album will also be available as limited-edition vinyl, cassettes and CDs – Available HERE. As part of the release of EVERY LOSER, Iggy is offering an exclusive relaunch of legendary fanzine, PUNK Magazine, from founder and legendary editor John Holstrom with a full Iggy issue, which contains an exclusive interview with Iggy by Flea. Iggy originally graced the cover of the John Holstrom Fanzine in July 1976.
Widely acknowledged as one of the most influential artists and dynamic live performers of all time, Iggy Pop is a singer, songwriter, musician, author, record producer, DJ, and actor whose epic body of work has earned him both worldwide critical acclaim and fanatic cult success. Beginning in 1967 with his era-defining group The Stooges, Pop merged primal rock, blues, and free jazz into something altogether dangerous and new, paving the way for punk, post-punk, hard rock, and grunge. His landmark solo career – which kicked off with 1977’s David Bowie-produced The Idiot and Lust For Life – has seen Pop traverse a stunning span of musical genres, inspiring generation after generation of rock ‘n rollers with his iconoclastic songcraft, uncompromising performance style, and one-of-a-kind charisma. Perhaps the greatest living embodiment of rock & roll, Pop has never slowed down, pushing the art form forward for more than half a century, including his most recent full length recording, 2019’s contemplative, critically acclaimed Free.
Andrew Watt’s diverse array of credits includes work with Justin Bieber, Post Malone, Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Ozzy Osbourne and more. In 2021 he was honored with the GRAMMY® Award for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, and recently produced Ozzy Osbourne’s #1 Billboard Chart-topping album Patient Number 9, as well as the single “Hold Me Closer,” the highly anticipated hit collaboration by Britney Spears and Elton John. At the top of 2022, Watt produced the entirety of Eddie Vedder’s critically acclaimed solo release Earthling, and in February, he landed two genre-bending hits on the Hot 100 in The Kid LAROI’s “Thousand Miles” and Ed Sheeran and Lil Baby’s “2step.” Beyond his producing and songwriting, Watt had the honor of joining Eddie Vedder on tour as part of his all-star side project, The Earthlings.

Ladytron Release New Single “City Of Angels” Announce Anticipated LP Time’s Arrow
- This week Liverpool synth quartet Ladytron announced their highly anticipated seventh studio album Time’s Arrow, premiere the lead single "City of Angels" and reveal the album’s tracklist and cover art. The single’s video, directed by Manuel Nogueira will soon follow. The album is set for release via Cooking Vinyl on January 20, 2023 with a UK tour to follow in March. US live shows will be announced soon.
"City of Angels” is their first new music released since 2019’s critically acclaimed eponymous album. Over Ladytron's insistent analogue backing, the song inverts sensuous imagery into a vision of a near future collapse of cultural memory. “It’s about forgetting,” says Daniel Hunt, “…how fragile it is”, "...not about one particular place or other, but a merging of them.”
Beauty, disposability and fragility of the culture that surrounds us, and the exhilaration of freeing yourself from those structures… these are themes Ladytron return to on Time’s Arrow. Crystalline melodies enveloped in icy textures and rippling arpeggios, shoegaze, disco, and industrial sounds that combine in their signature electro pop style.
The mood of Time’s Arrow is strangely optimistic, freeing – utopian, even. Have they left dystopia behind? “We're already there,” Helen Marnie points out.
Fittingly, Time’s Arrow arrives as another moment from Ladytron’s past recently returned, as the tides of the digital ocean moved in mysterious ways. Last month Ladytron celebrated the 20th anniversary of their formative 2002 LP Light&Magic (Nettwerk). In mid-2021 the album’s single “Seventeen” went viral on TikTok, sending the track into top 10s around the world. A new disaffected generation was introduced to Ladytron’s music, with some 200,000 clips created, many of them with millions of views each. A twenty-year-old song by a group whose very existence predated social media itself: electronic pop quartet Ladytron.
As the strange rebirth of “Seventeen” shows, great work creates its own space. It never dies. Time’s Arrow glides through your heart – from the past to the future.

Forming in Liverpool in the late 90s and taking their name from the gloriously blank Roxy Music track, Ladytron’s debut album 604 was released a year ahead of 2002’s Light&Magic with Witching Hour in 2005 - “a quantum leap record” said Pitchfork. The group were lauded as leaders of the new electro pop and electroclash scenes then flourishing, and Light&Magic went on to be influential, for both independent and mainstream electronic pop music which followed.
Next up, 2008’s Velocifero, before 2011’s more serene, dreamy Gravity the Seducer and the cue for a deserved break which lasted years longer than imagined. Along the way they wrote and produced for other artists, including Lush and Christina Aguilera. The group reconvened in 2019 for an album which Q Magazine called “near perfection”, with Mojo insisting that in “Dark times, Ladytron soundtrack them beautifully”. GQ described it as “Formidable machine music, full of urgency and menace.” While NPR posited that “Ladytron seems enraptured at the idea of change, and of new beginnings in the face of a possible fiery end”.

The London Suede, Manic Street Preachers Tour North America in 2022
This fall, alt Brit rockers The London Suede and Manic Street Preachers are co-headlining their first-ever tour in North America together, which will kick off in Vancouver on Nov. 3 before concluding in Toronto on Nov. 24.
Both bands left their indelible marks in the early ’90s straight off their debut albums—Manic Street Preachers’ Generation Terrorists in 1992 and Suede in 1993.
On hiatus for nearly a decade since 2002, The London Suede (also known as Suede) reunited with a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2010 and followed up with their sixth album Bloodsports in 2013, along with Night Thoughts in 2016, and 2018 release The Blue Hour. Suede is set to release its ninth album Autofiction (BMG) on Sept. 16.
Manic Street Preachers have consistently continued to record together, even following the 1995 disappearance of guitarist Richey Edwards. Singer James Dean Bradfield, bassist Nicky Wire, and drummer Sean Moore regrouped shortly after, and the band has released 14 albums since their debut, including their most recent The Ultra Vivid Lament in 2021.
Individually, Suede and Manic Street Preachers have toured Europe and the U.K. extensively with fewer dates in North America. Both bands will perform songs from their entire catalog spanning 30 years. The London Suede last performed in the U.S. in 2011 at Coachella, while Manic Street Preachers last toured North America in April 2015. Both bands first toured together in Europe in 1994.

Ministry started their set at the Van Buren with a tribute to Ukraine, displaying the countries national colors and playing a recording of their national anthem. They then went into a medley of songs from ‘A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste’ with songs Breathe, The Missing, Deity, and Stigmata.
Their set list for the night included three cover songs, Supernaut from Black Sabbath and Don’t Stand In Line and Man Should Surrender both from Pailhead.
They would round off their playlist with tour staple songs Burning Inside, N.W.O, Just One Fix, Thieves, and So What.
After their main playlist Ministry would return with an encore that included songs from their new album, ‘Moral Hygiene.’ The songs included Alert Level, Good Trouble, and a cover from Iggy and the Stooges, Search and Destroy.
The highlights were the visual imagery on display in the background as they performed through their set. With rapid-fire iconoclastic imagery and video that set each song on a different plain. Halfway through they showed a tribute to past members and key figures of the band.
Initially scheduled to take place in summer 2020, the Industrial Strength tour was rescheduled to fall 2021 and then spring 2022 due to COVID. Ultimately worth the wait, this tour with the bands that performed has to be a highlight for any rock and industrial music enthusiast.

KAT VON D REIMAGINES SONG “FOTOS Y RECUERDOS” BY SELENA
Los Angeles, CA February 11, 2022 -- Gifted multi-hyphenate Kat Von D follows the success of her critically acclaimed debut album Love Made Me Do It with her new single and accompanying music video of “Fotos y Recuerdos,” the hit song from legendary Mexican-American recording artist Selena. The single is out now and the video will go live on Kat Von D's Youtube channel at 1 PM PST / 4 PM ET. You can watch the video here.
Kat Von D, who herself was born in Mexico and is a native Spanish speaker, has always felt a deep connection with the music of Selena, even before Kat began recording her own music. Selena’s language-crossover album, Dreaming of You, was Kat’s first introduction to English.
“Selena was such a big part of my childhood! Her music was on constant rotation in our house growing up, so covering “Fotos y Recuerdos” was something that felt natural to me, and I'm so excited for this song to be my first musical release in my native language, Spanish.”
“Fotos y Recuerdos,” a song adapted from the iconic rock group The Pretenders’ song “Back On The Chain Gang,” is at once an emotionally-resonant and energizing blend of the rock roots it originates from, danceable pop and house elements, and Selena’s Latin pop flair to tie it all together. This combination of sounds plays perfectly into the synthwave sound Kat Von D has established for herself on Love Made Me Do It, making “Fotos Y Recuerdos” a truly fitting cover for Kat and her band to add to their discography.
On Kat’s cover, her melancholy vocals carry the pining lyrics through a soundscape of lush, atmospheric piano that gives way to a club-ready electronic beat, resulting in a poignant reimagining that fully displays the strengths of Kat and her band while preserving the energy and emotion of Selena’s original work - an effect Kat looked to achieve as a way to honor and pay tribute to Selena.
“Fotos y Recuerdos,” a song about the heartache of a love not meant to be, is steeped in emotional power that makes Kat’s interpretation all the more meaningful. In the music video, Kat explores the theme of loved ones being gone and spins it as a way to remember those who meant the most to us who have passed away. The video features projections of photos selected by Kat and her band of past people and loved ones who had a great impact on their lives. From Alan Vega,to Lemmy of Motörhead, to Kat’s pet cat who passed away, the music video is a beautiful and touching ode to remembering the ones who meant the most to us, elevated by the power of Selena’s touching songwriting.
Of the meaning of covering this Selena song to her and her bandmates, Kat says, ““Fotos y Recuerdos” has a beautiful chorus that translates to, “And all that I have left of your love, are photos and memories” so for the music video, my bandmates and i compiled a collection of photographs of loved ones we have lost, and had these sentimental images projected onto us while we performed the song. It was an emotional experience to say the least. But one that I hope Selena would be proud of.”
The release of the cover comes as Kat Von D and her band prepare to embark on their first ever nationwide headlining tour across The United States, kicking off in Pittsburgh, PA on February 28 and concluding in Santa Ana, CA on April 2 before heading over to the UK and Europe. Kat will be joined on tour by her full live band consisting of Gregg Foreman AKA Mr. Pharmacist (synth 1/Cat Power, The Gossip), Sammi Doll (synth 2/IAMX) and Brynn Route. The upcoming tour will feature the opportunity to meet and hang out with Kat Von D and her band through Meet & Greet and VIP upgrade packages. DOT ALLISON’S “LOVE DIED IN OUR ARMS’ REMIX FROM THE LATE LEE ‘SCRATCH’ PERRY OUT NOW
Dot Allison follows the critically acclaimed Heart-Shaped Scars - her first solo album in a decade -with a remix of "Love Died in Our Arms" by the late Lee 'Scratch' Perry, the final project of the legendary producer's career.
Perry’s remix serves as the first single for the upcoming Entangled Remix EP, a collection of reworkings of favorite tracks from the critically acclaimed album.
Along with Lee "Scratch" Perry's mix the EP features contributions from Saint Etienne, Anton Newcombe, Lomond Campbell and The Anchoress. Saint Etienne have always had close ties to Dot, thanks to their mutual ties to Heavenly and Andrew Weatherall. Anton Newcombe is a fellow singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist and has collaborated with her recently on their work for the soundtrack to the TV series “Annika.” Lomond Campbell, a BAFTA-winning songwriter and shortlister for the Scottish Album of the Year Award, combines his ambitious creative spirit with Dot’s poignant lyricism. And The Anchoress, who has performed and collaborated in the past with renowned acts such as Simple Minds and Manic Street Preachers, brings her wide range of experiences to reimagining a never-before-released song from Dot.
Dot says, “I titled this ‘Entangled Remix EP’ to tie with “Heart-Shaped Scars” but also in a way the slightly disparate influences on the EP spanning decades from when I was first influenced by dub music & did a remix for St. Etienne to Anton in Berlin & the Anchoress now.
Of all the tracks on the Entangled Remix EP, none hold a greater importance than Lee “Scratch” Perry’s remix of “Love Died In Our Arms,” the final work of his long and storied career. Perry works brilliantly as he always has within the framework of Dot’s original song, weaving his signature dub beats into the music without distracting from Dot’s moving singing and songwriting.
Dot Allison is indebted to the strides made by Perry, with her origins in the influential, electronic-dub-heavy trio One Dove and her early solo projects showcasing many of the ambitious sonic experimentations that were so fearlessly brought to the forefront by Perry. Through his music and in everyday life, Perry always lived by his spirituality and deep appreciation for the world around him – themes that make up the core of the ethereal, world-appreciating music on Heart-Shaped Scars. As a longtime fan and sharer of musical values, Dot reached out to Perry about remix and production work on her new music.
“I contacted Lee to ask if he’d consider doing a mix of ‘Love Died In Our Arms’ and got a lovely reply saying ‘yes’. He later confirmed the parts had arrived and the mix was going well. So I was deeply saddened to hear he’d passed soon after and so soon after we’d been in touch. Naturally I assumed the mix had not been completed and left it at that. So I was stunned two days later to hear, from Lee’s wife, that my song had been “the last thing in his life that Lee worked on.” As if that wasn’t enough, she responded to my email a day or so later expressing my gratitude and deepest sympathies by sending the finished mix. I genuinely cannot put into words what a profound moment and an honour and gift it felt under the circumstances - I was completely blown away. That my co-producer Fiona Cruickshank was there with me when I first heard it turned this into a really magical moment. I feel a duty to Lee’s own artistry and his fans to release his last remix and I do so with a deep gratitude to Lee, his wife and family for still forwarding me this mix under such sad circumstances, I remain deeply moved and grateful for my music to have been touched by Lee’s musical genius and spirit.”

Björk Cornucopia Dates Announced For Los Angeles and San Francisco 2022
Björk’s acclaimed production Cornucopia, produced with an award-winning team of digital and theatrical collaborators and based off her 2017 album Utopia, returns for a new slate of dates in early 2022 in Los Angeles and San Francisco; tickets went on sale October 15 and are available HERE for Los Angeles and HERE for San Francisco.
Cornucopia, directed by Lucrecia Martel and Björk with co-creative director James Merry, made its world premiere at The Shed in spring 2019 as part of its inaugural season in its largest space, The McCourt. Media artist Tobias Gremmler created the digital visual design in an environment created by stage designer Chiara Stephenson. New York Magazine called it “one of the most incredible displays of lights and sounds ever to grace a stage in the city” while The New Yorker praised Björk’s use of “fantasy as a weapon for change.”
Björk is a multidisciplinary artist who, time and again, innovates across music, art, fashion, and technology. From writing, arranging, and producing an expansive music catalog, to escapades in virtual reality and digital apps, Björk continues to inspire and experiment, redefining the boundaries of how a musician works.
Björk Orchestral, an intimate tour featuring Björk’s orchestral arrangements played by members of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, flute septet Viibra, the Hamrahlid Choir and special guests, has four shows scheduled for this fall in Reykjavík after being postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. They will be streamed live online, with a portion of the sales donated in support of women’s charities worldwide; livestream tickets can be found HERE.
Additional critical praise for Cornucopia:
“100 minutes of a nearly overwhelming array of sounds and images, a true feast for the senses and an ecstatic paean to nature and flutes. Her voice sounded incredible as ever, never flagging throughout the show as if drawn from an infinite wellspring of power and energy.”—Brooklyn Vegan
“Björk’s latest production is her most intricate, theatrical, and collaborative yet. It immerses fans in a sensory techno-acoustic utopia, underscored by a poignant socio-political message about the need for environmental action.”—Dazed

JOY AGAIN NEW SINGLE & VIDEO "WHAT LOVERS DO" OUT NOW
Today, six-piece indie-rock outfit Joy Again return with their new single & video, “What Lovers Do,” on Arista Records.
"What Lovers Do” marks Joy Again’s first release with Arista Records. The dreamy, lo-fi track explores “a playful cat and mouse game, the push and pull of a complicated relationship, and a rumination on the perpetuity of love.”
For Joy Again, inspiration indiscriminately bounces around like a superball. It ping-pongs between the Philadelphia band before it settles and crystallizes in one capriciously catchy bop after another. The six members of Joy Again—Sachi DiSerafino [vocals, guitar], Arthur Shea [vocals, guitar], Blaise O’Brien [keys], Zachary Tyndall [keys], Will Butera [drums], and Kieran Ferris [bass]—draw hooks and melodies from the most unexpected corners as they create without limitations or boundaries. Since debuting in 2014, the band has generated more than 100 million streams independently, inciting hundreds of thousands of TikTok videos, and earning acclaim from The FADER, OnesToWatch, Atwood Magazine, EARMILK, Alt Citizen, NME,and more.
“What Lovers Do” arrives on the heels of the viral success of “Looking Out For You,” the band’s 2015 single that has been gaining unprecedented TikTok traction over the past year. “Looking Out For You” is currently charting at #61 on Spotify’s US Top 200 and has amassed 130M+ streams to date, with Arista Records signing the band last May.
