The Hummingbirds At Majestic Repertory Theatre Brings Weaponized Hummingbirds, Strippers, and Domestic Terrorism

Photos And Review by Jorge Lara

Jake Staley and Breon Jenay bring the wit, humor, and uneasiness of the subject matter of this play to light as their acting chops are on full display non-stop.

You get to witness a mix of comedy and dismay at rapid intervals. Where the audience was at moments laughing, then in quiet awe.

The word play and interactions were the highlights as well as the lighting used to create the dramatic interludes.

The Hummingbirds by Garret Jon Groenveld concerns domestic terrorism, strippers and weaponized hummingbirds.

Most of the interactions take place at an unemployment Bureau where you meet the two unemployment counselors placing people at jobs.

The Hummingbirds won the 2012 Global Age Project and the 2012 Internationalists Global Playwrighting Prize (7 Presentations in 7 countries - US, Romania, Spain, Mexico, The Netherlands, Germany and Singapore).

The play received it's English language premiere at New Jersey Rep in 2022, and is on tour in Romania (in Romanian) and has been produced in Spanish in Zaragoza, Spain and two acclaimed productions in Mexico City, Mexico.

"The Hummingbirds: A Comedy of Menace" by Garret Jon Groenveld is produced by A Public Fit Theatre Company and Fallout Fringe Festival, starring Jake Staley and Breon Jenay.

The production is part of the Fallout Fringe Festival, happening now at the Majestic Repertory Theatre. Next Hummingbirds play presentation is Tuesday, June 17. You can purchase tickets at www.falloutfringe.org
