Ladytron Release Time's Arrow on Jan 20th: The VIM Magazine Interview

The UK seminal synth quartet Ladytron return with their highly anticipated seventh studio album 'Time’s Arrow' on January 20th that shows off everything that hard-earned fans can count on - crystalline melodies enveloped in icy textures and rippling arpeggios -- with touches of indie pop, shoegaze, disco, and industrial music.

A UK tour is set for March 2023 with performances in Glasgow, Liverpool, and London with a US tour set for May 2023 with performances on May 10 in Seattle at The Neptune, May 11 in Portland at the Wonder Ballroom, and on May 12 in San Francisco at August Hall.

VIM Magazine: Time's Arrow is Ladytron’s seventh album. What can listeners expect from this new album?

Helen: People can expect our signature sound, but pushing the boat out on some soaring vocals.

Daniel: It sounds like us, but we have travelled to some new places on the new record. We always do. To those who know us, familiar and different.

VIM Magazine: You have produced remixes for bands like David Gahan, Goldfrapp, Placebo, and Nine Inch Nails. Do you all have a favorite remix you’ve done and what has been the allure of mixing other bands?

Daniel: Well, you get asked to do remixes all the time. If the track is right and the moment is right then you do it. We’ve been lucky to remix some artists we respect and admire, from the past and our contemporaries. Sometimes remixing can allow you to try out new techniques. It’s often a good production workout. I loved doing Blondie’s Fade away and radiate.

VIM Magazine: You will follow your 2023 UK tour dates with 3 shows on the West Coast of the United States, in Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. Can we expect further dates after those or perhaps some festival appearances?

Helen: I really hope so. I'm keen to play more dates in the US as we've always been received so well there. I have my fingers crossed for the east coast and anything in between.

Daniel: Perhaps yes. At time of writing things are still being confirmed. But I would imagine we would come to the east coast later in the year.

VIM Magazine: The music video for the first single ‘City of Ángels’ was directed by Manuel Noguiera and features actress Bianca Comparato. How did the music video come about?

Daniel: Manuel is a friend of mine in Sao Paulo Brazil. He directed one video/short film for the last album, Tower of Glass. We wanted to work together again and he fell in love with City of Angels when I played it to him. As always wanted to make something beyond a conventional music video, and came up with this kind of occult, science fiction universe, within which we had wonderful actress Bianca Comparato, from 3%, who is also a big fan of Ladytron since she was a teenager. It was very rewarding to make.

VIM Magazine: Your bands name was taken from a song from Roxy Music . Are there any current bands you all have been listening to?

Daniel: So, when the name Ladytron was chosen it was 1997, 25 years ago. Ladytron by Roxy Music was only 25 years old then…I love the comet is coming record.

VIM Magazine: All the members of the band are known to work on side projects of their own. You are all known for your DJ sets and Daniel Hunt has worked on several music scores. Any current side projects you are all working on?

Helen: I've just recently completed a score for a 3 part TV documentary. It's the first i've done and i'm really eager to do more in the future.

Daniel: We always have other areas of creative interest but they are kept separate from Ladytron.
